Make your Mobile Phone a Travelling Microphone

In the Middle East, Israel has set up a cyber command to secure the country against hacking attacks on its key networks.
Israel's immediate neighbourhood is the place where it puts into use much of its technical know-how.
Along its northern border with Lebanon, Israel deploys a large network of electronic eyes and ears.
And in the ongoing intelligence war between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah, increasingly sophisticated electronic equipment is being used.
In February 2010, Lebanon arrested a man who reportedly confessed to being a Mossad agent. It was claimed that he had used sophisticated surveillance equipment that sent signals to his Israeli handlers via a mobile phone and computer located in a hidden compartment inside his car.
It may all sound like science fiction, but a global spying network does exist that can eavesdrop on every single phone call and email on the planet.
Eavesdropping on phone calls and text messages has become increasing easy for those with the right equipment, especially with the development of GSM networks - the technology used on the vast majority of mobile phone networks around the world. Read Full

Protesters shut down Port of Oakland in US

Protesting against economic inequality and corporate greed, the demonstrators on Wednesday joined a general strike and shut down operations at the Port of Oakland, Reuters reported.
The protesters noisily condemned police brutality at a recent 'Occupy Oakland' protest rally and blocked a major Oakland street.
Organizers of the rally had earlier announced their plan to shut down the Port of Oakland, which handles about $39 billion a year in imports and exports, as they geared up for a massive general strike.
“At this time, maritime operations are effectively shut down at the Port of Oakland. Maritime area operations will resume when it is safe and secure to do so,” port officials said in a statement.
Anti-Wall Street protesters also blocked the gates of the port and stood on top of container trucks stranded in the street.
Oakland 'Occupy' movement gained momentum after a former US Marine and a veteran of the US-led war on Iraq was badly wounded by a projectile fired by police during a rally last week. Read full Story

Sheikh Usama Al Attar

October 30  2011

Canadian-Iraqi scholar, Sheikh Usama Al Attar was detained in Medina, Saudi Arabia yesterday. Sheikh Usama Al Attar is the resident Alim of the Islamic Shia Ithna Asheri Association of Edmonton, member organization of NASIMCO and was on the annual pilgrimage, Hajj to Saudi Arabia.

The Canadian Broadcast Corporation reported the following:

"The attack took place at a cemetery in Medina early Sunday morning and was reportedly sparked when religious police approached an international group of pilgrims that included the imam, Usama Al-Atar of Edmonton. Witnesses said angry words were spoken, then things calmed down. That's when a single member of the religious police approached Al-Atar, offered to shake his hand and then called out to a group of men at a taxi stand. They rushed in and began beating Al-Atar, kicking him and attempting to throttle him, the witnesses said. Medina central police arrived, escorted the Canadian to a car and drove away, according to the witnesses. Several witnesses said the attack was unprovoked, CBC journalist Muhammad Lila wrote on his Twitter page."

NASIMCO is actively working with local and federal government officials towards the immediate release of Sheikh Usama Al Attar. Relevant leaders of our communities in Canada, Council of European Jamaats, Africa Federation and The World Federation officials are working in conjunction with NASIMCO to strengthen our efforts. Contact with the Canadian Ministry of Foreign affairs, local members of Parliament and media outlets are being established. Updates on the situation will be released as they become available.

Does Obama understand what's been unleashed?

A week after news of an alleged Iranian assassination plot in Washington rocked the international scene, public details remain scant. The Obama administration - including the president himself - has spoken with unequivocal certitude regarding the Iranian government’s intentions and involvement. But until he uses the same level of candour to publicly disclose detailed evidence, we will not know anything beyond allegations.
Pundits will continue speculating with whodunnit analysis that constructs an incomplete puzzle, but engaging in hypotheticals does not paint a clearer picture.
More telling are the increasingly dangerous geopolitical ramifications of this crisis. Full Story
