Hijab is an Attitude, not a Fashion

Hijab being an attitude and a way of thinking, it means that when Muslim women go out, they must act like proper Muslim women. No flirting, talking to men casually, talking too loudly (the voice is also an awra! A man could find a woman’s voice attractive.) etc. We should conduct ourselves with dignity at all times; after all, whenever we go out in the world, we are representing Islam.
There will always be people out there who don’t understand the hijab and direct negative comments and stares towards us. But eventually, you won’t notice those people staring. You will be comfortable in your hijab, you will be strong. It should get to the point where you would feel naked without your covering over your clothes!
But hijab is not only for women, it is for men too. Men have an awra, from their navel to their knee (that is the absolute minimum; it is recommended that men should dress fully and modestly as well). They should also lower their gazes. Although in most Muslim countries, men do not usually walk around without a t-shirt on.....Read Full Article

Did You Know?

Did you know that non-Jewish Israelis, cannot buy or lease land in the Zionist entity?
Did you know that Palestinian license plates in Zionist entity are color coded
 to distinguish Jews from non-Jews?
Did you know that Israel allots 85 per cent of the water resources for Jews and
the remaining 15 percent is divided among all Palestinians in the territories?
For example in Hebron, 85 per cent of the water is given to about 400 settlers,
while 15 per cent is divided among Hebron’s 1,20,000 Palestinians?
Did you know the United States awards Israel $5 billion in aid each year?
Did you know that yearly US aid to Israel exceeds the aid the US grants
 to the whole African continent?
Did you know that the Israel is the only country in the Middle East that has nuclear weapons?
Did you know that the Israel is the only country in the Middle East that refuses to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and bars international inspections from its sites?
Did you know that Israel currently occupies territories of two sovereign nations (Lebanon and Syria) in defiance of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions?
For the Jews who claim that according to the Bible the land is theirs:
God said to Abraham,
"Unto thy SEED, I will give thy land." Abraham had two sons and two seeds.
Ishmael - the Arab son, and Isaac - the Jewish son.
The Bible even identifies Ishmael (the Arab son) as Abraham’s son and seed: "And Hagar bore Abram a son: and Abraham called his son’s name, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael" (Holy Bible:Genesis 16:15). There’s more in Genesis 17:23, 17:25, 17:26, 25:9, 25:12. So even if one wants to go to the Bible, the land would belong to both seeds of Abraham.
Did you know that Israel has for decades routinely sent assassins into other countries to kill its political enemies?
Did you know that high-ranking military officers in the Israeli Defense Forces have admitted publicly that unarmed prisoners of war were executed by the IDF?
Did you know that Israel refuses to prosecute its soldiers who have acknowledged executing prisoners of war?
Did you know that Israel routinely confiscates bank accounts, businesses, and land and refuses to pay compensation to those who suffer the confiscation?
Did you know that Israel blew up an American diplomatic facility in Egypt and attacked a US ship in international waters, killing 33 and wounding 177 American sailors?
Did you know that the second most powerful lobby in the United States, according to a recent Fortune magazine survey of Washington insiders, is the Jewish AIPAC?
Did you know that Israel stands in defiance of 69 United Nations Security Council Resolutions?
Did you know that today’s Israel sits on the former sites of
more than 400 now-vanished Palestinian villages,
and that the Israelis renamed almost every physical site in the country to cover up the traces?
Did you know that it was not until 1988 that Israelis were barred from running
"Jews Only" job ads?
Did you know that four prime ministers of Israel (Begin, Shamir, Rabin, and Sharon)
have taken part in either bomb attacks on civilians, massacres of civilians,
or forced expulsions of civilians from their villages?
Did you know that Sharon’s coalition government includes a party Molodet,
which advocates expelling all Palestinians from the occupied territories?
Did you know that Israel’s settlement building increased in the last nine years since Oslo?
Did you know that settlement building under Barak
doubled compared to settlement building under Netanyahu?
Did you know that Israel once dedicated a postage stamp to a man
who attacked a civilian bus and killed several people?
Did you know that recently declassified documents indicate that
David Ben-Gurion in at least some instances approved of the expulsion of Palestinians in 1948?
Did you know that despite a ban on torture by Israel’s High Court of Justice,
torture is still continued by Shin Bet interrogators on Palestinian prisoners?
Did you know that Palestinian refugees make up the largest portion
of the refugee population in the world?

Fasting and Medical Benefits

by Shahid Athar, M.D.

Most Muslims do not fast because of medical benefits but because it has been ordained to them in the Quran. The medical benefits of fasting are as a result of fasting. Fasting in general has been used in medicine for medical reasons including weight management, for rest of the digestive tract and for lowering lipids. There are many adverse effects of total fasting as well as so-called crash diets. Islamic fasting is different from such diet plans because in Ramadan fasting, there is no malnutrition or inadequate calorie intake. The caloric intake of Muslims during Ramadhan is at or slightly below the national requirement

guidelines. In addition, the fasting in Ramadhan is voluntarily taken and is not a prescribed imposition from the physician.

Ramadan is a month of self-regulation and self-training, with the hope that this training will last beyond the end of Ramadan. If the lessons learned during Ramadan, whether in terms of dietary intake or righteousness, are carried on after Ramadan, it is beneficial for one's entire life. Moreover, the type of food taken during Ramadhan does not have any selective criteria of crash diets such as those which are protein only or fruit only type diets. Everything that is permissible is taken in moderate quantities.

The only difference between Ramadhan and total fasting is the timing of the food; during Ramadan, we basically miss lunch and take an early breakfast and do not eat until dusk. Abstinence from water during this period is not bad at all and in fact, it causes concentration of all fluids within the body, producing slight dehydration. The body has its own water conservation mechanism; in fact, it has been shown that slight dehydration and water conservation, at least in plant life, improve their longevity.

The physiological effect of fasting includes lower of blood sugar, lowering of cholesterol and lowering of the systolic blood pressure. In fact, Ramadan fasting would be an ideal recommendation for treatment of mild to moderate, stable, non-insulin diabetes, obesity and essential hypertension. In 1994 the first International Congress on "Health and Ramadhan", held in Casablanca, entered 50 research papers from all over the world, from Muslim and non-Muslim researchers who have done extensive studies on the medical ethics of fasting. While improvement in many medical conditions was noted; however, in no way did fasting worsen any patients' health or baseline medical condition. On the other hand, patients who are suffering from severe diseases, whether diabetes or coronary artery disease, kidney stones, etc., are exempt from fasting and should not try to fast.

There are psychological effects of fasting as well. There is a peace and tranquility for those who fast during the month of Ramadan. Personal hostility is at a minimum, and the crime rate decreases. This psychological improvement could be related to better stabilization of blood glucose during fasting as hypoglycemia after eating, aggravates behavior changes.

Recitation of the Quran not only produces a tranquility of heart and mind, but improves the memory. Therefore, I encourage my Muslim patients to fast in the month of Ramadan, but they must do it under medical supervision. Healthy adult Muslims should not fear becoming weak by fasting, but instead it should improve their health and stamina.
