34th Year of Iranian Islamic Revolution

Mass crowds started early on Sunday to flock to streets to reaffirm their allegiance to the ideals of the late leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Imam Sayyed Ruhollah Khomeini.
In the capital, crowds waving Iranian flags and portraits of Imam Khomeini walked towards the landmark Azadi (Freedom) Square.
Marchers also chanted "Death to Israel" and "Death to America" as they headed for the square, some waving posters of supreme leader Ayatollah Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei, where President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made an address.
Iran is holding similar rallies nationwide, especially in large provincial capitals such as Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz and Kerman.
Special ceremonies were held at home and abroad on January 31, the day that Ayatollah Khomeini returned to the Iranian capital, Tehran, on February 1, 1979 after a 15-year exile in Paris.
The day of Imam Khomeini's return to Iran marks the beginning of celebrations, dubbed Ten Days of Dawn, which culminate in the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution on February 10.
The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 34 years ago, ending 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.
The Islamic Revolution, under the guidance of Imam Khomeini, established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy. (abna)

Younger Son of Shah of Iran Commits Suicide

Alireza Pahlavi, the youngest son of former Iranian dictator Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, has committed suicide at his home in the United States.
His older brother, Reza Pahlavi, confirmed the death in a statement on his personal website on Tuesday, saying his sibling had been suffering from chronic depression.
The statement said that although his 44-year-old brother had struggled for years to overcome his suffering, “he finally succumbed, and during the night of the 4th of January 2011, in his Boston residence, took his own life.”
Police say he died from a single gunshot which was apparently self-inflicted.
His father, who had been supported by the United States, was ousted by the Islamic Revolution in 1979, and members of the family have been living in exile in the US for decades.
Alireza is the second member of the Pahlavi family to commit suicide.
The youngest daughter of the family, Leila Pahlavi, died in 2001 at the age of 31 after taking a large amount of cocaine and barbiturates. Her body was found in a London hotel.

Iran Celebrates its 31st year of Islamic Revolution

Thousands of Iranians are rallying to mark the 31st anniversary of its Islamic revolution.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attacked the West, and said Iran had produced its first stock of 20% enriched uranium.
It is the most important day in Iran's political calendar.
Official events are being held across Iran, but the main gathering is at Tehran's Azadi Square. State TV showed tens of thousands of people filling the streets.
Mr Ahmadinejad told the crowds Iran was now a "nuclear state" and would soon treble output of 20% enriched uranium. He added that Western countries were hampering genuine reform in Iran.
Today has certainly been a victory for the Iranian government. Inspite of a huge turnout today, western media is reporting it in a negative perspective.
