The United States has vetoed a UN resolution that would have condemned "illegal" settlements on the occupied Palestinian territories.
The US cast two vetoes in 2006 when the council tried to pass Arab-backed resolutions that demanded Israel end its military operations against the Gaza Strip.

The other four Council's veto-wielding members -- China, Russia, Britain and France -- and the 10 elected members -- Brazil, Bosnia, Colombia, Gabon, Germany, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, Portugal and South Africa -- voted in favor of the resolution on Friday.

This reflects the wide support for the draft resolution which had about 130 co-sponsors, dpa reported.

The draft resolution had called for the UN Security Council to declare, "Israeli settlements established in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East al-Quds (Jerusalem), are illegal and constitute a major obstacle to the achievement of a just, lasting and comprehensive peace."

The draft said that Israel -- "the occupying power" -- should immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian land.

Both US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke to acting Palestinian Authority (PA) Chief Mahmoud Abbas at length on Thursday in an attempt to sway him, but Abbas rejected a compromise.

Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian envoy to the UN in New York, told reporters after the vote that the PA appreciated the "massive support from UN members for Palestinians' right to see an end to the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories since 1967."

Palestinians argue that the settlement construction is aimed at preventing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Israel occupied al-Quds and the West Bank in the 1967 war -- a move not recognized by the international community and the United Nations.

The hypocracy of UNSC

The United Nations Security Council exposed itself at the 2010 Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference in New York by declaring their Nuclear Status.

The 5 permanent members of UNSC declared their size of Nuclear Arsenals as follow:
United States: 5,113
Russia:          12,000
France:               300
China:                 240
Britain:               185

These figures do not include thousands of nuclear warheads that are now retired and await disarmament if brought into action.

Do they have any moral right to impose sanctions on those countries who are signatories of NPT?

While Iran who is enriching nuclear energy for civilian purpose like medicine and power is facing sanctions from these UNSC members.

While these member countries have a criminal history of using lethal weapons on civilians. These countries are hostile to their neighbours.

America has dropped atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and killed millions of civilians.

America supported Israel in producing Nuclear Warheads. Israel is possessing about 80 and more of such nuclear arsenals.

The story is not about NPT, but, it is the selling of destructive weapons to developing and under developing countries.

Another Day Another Burial

After the sad demise of Salman Ahmad, on the day of his Sewwom Majlis (3rd day) his khala died at Saifee Hospital. She was critically ill. She is survived by her son Dawar, who lives in United States and a daughter. Sayyeda Aabeda Naqvi was a soft spoken school head mistress of a Municipal school in Mumbai. Humbleness, caring, generosity was her prime nature. She performed her Hajj in 2006. Marhuma was very much loved by the whole family. May Almighty Allah alleviate her heavenly position. She was buried at Rehmatabad graveyard, Mazgaon, Mumbai..
Her Sewwom Majlis is on 18th April 2010 at Rizvi College, Bandra west.

Disturbing Attitude of Rich Arabs

"The government of Abu Dhabi is giving $150 million to the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, with the aim of developing tools and processes to reduce the pain children experience before, during and after surgery. “Our hope is that this gift will be transformative and lead to new medical technology and breakthroughs that improve health care for children around the world,” said Yousef Al Otaiba, the United Arab Emirates ambassador to the United States. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the U.A.E." This is quite disturbing. If this was done for pure scientific, medical, or charitable purposes, I would have no qualms. But this is clearly for political purposes to win favors for the corrupt, polygamous royal families of the UAE. Also, can you imagine what that $150 million would have done for hospitals in the Middle East?

On the other side the distressed expats in UAE suffer and return to their homes empty handed.

The pains and sufferings of children of Gaza, Palestine has no value in the eyes of Rich Arabs of UAE where Wah-habis have a greater influence over the ruling class.
