Western Australia's "Friends of Palestine"
For decades, the state of Israel has denied Palestinians their fundamental rights of freedom, equality, and self-determination through ethnic cleansing, colonization, racial discrimination, and military occupation. Despite abundant condemnation of Israeli policies by the United Nations, international bodies, and human rights organisations, Israel’s crimes have continued with impunity.
On July 9 2005, a year after the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s apartheid wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) to be illegal, a clear majority of Palestinian civil society called upon people of conscience all over the world to launch broad boycotts, implement divestment initiatives, and to demand sanctions against Israel, until Palestinian rights are recognised in full compliance with international law. Alcohol Causes More Deaths than HIV/AIDS
A University of Oxford researcher is calling on the World Health Organization to put in place policies that would regulate alcohol use.
Devi Sridhar, a lecturer in global health politics, wrote that WHO should treat dangerous drinking as a global public health crisis, just as the agency treats disease outbreaks and tobacco use. WHO, she said, requires countries to report outbreaks of certain diseases and also institutes policies requiring member nations to take measures designed to curb tobacco’s supply and demand.
“About 2.5 million deaths a year, almost 4 percent of all deaths worldwide, are attributed to alcohol — more than the number of deaths caused by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis or malaria,” Sridhar wrote in her commentary, published in the journal Nature.
In 2010, WHO published a document, the WHO Global Strategy to Reduce Harmful Use of Alcohol, that included strategies such as prohibiting “unlimited drinks” promotions and instituting a minimum age to purchase alcohol. These recommendations, Sridhar argued, should become legal requirements.

American taxpayers give Israel over $8 million per day
A Billboard in America |
American taxpayers give Israel over $8 million per day – even though Israel is one of the world’s smallest and richest nations.
And this give-away costs Americans over $15 million per day.
An economist who conducted an audit for the Army War College found that as of 2003 Israel had cost Americans $3 trillion dollars because of the many associated and hidden costs of this money.
For example, Israel receives this massive aid in a lump sum at the very beginning of the fiscal year – unlike aid to any other country.
Since our government is operating at a deficit, this means that we borrow the money, deposit it in an Israeli account at a Federal Reserve Bank, and then taxpayers pay interest on this money long after it has been given away – while Israel makes interest on it.
It is failed policy that hurts everyone – both abroad and here at home.
This expenditure, unlike other governmental give-ways, is never openly discussed, due to the power of the Israel Lobby – the most powerful lobby on behalf of a foreign nation in our country.
A thorough, public discussion would show that it is a failed policy that prevents peace, perpetuates tragedy and injustice, finances discrimination against Christians and Muslims, drags Americans into endless Middle Eastern conflicts, and has caused damage to Americans for decades.
"Iran Today" Exhibition in Mumbai
An exhibition of Photographs about the Advancement and Progress titled "IRAN TODAY" was organised to celebrate the 33rd Anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran for 4 days in Bandra, the queen of the suburbs of Mumbai. It was inaugurated yesterday by Mrs. Priya Dutt, Member of the Parliament.
This event will be till 20th February 2012. The photo exhibition is divided into 3 sections:
1. Technological Advancement and Urban and Rural Development of Iran.
2. Iranian Calligraphy.
3. Status of Women in Iran equal to that of men in the field of education, culture and politics.
The venue selected by the organisers is a wise move, as most of the previous such exhibitions were held in the South of the city only. Now the suburbanites had this opportunity to look at Iran closely.
Mr. Hasan Mohammadi Hafshjani, a contemporary artist and an inventor of calligraphic works in Nast'aleeq is also at the Gallery to demonstrate his skill on request. I also made a request to pen for me "Ya Saahebaz Zamaan" to which he obliged.
The venue in Bandra is opposite Patwardhan Park, near National College at "7 Days Gallery."
Below is the video of the live calligraphy done by Mr. Hasan Mohammadi Hafshjani.
