Hijab: Rulings by Ayatullah Sistani

Question: What is the best modest dress according to Islamic laws?  

Answer: In the present time, the context of hijab is the modest covering of a Muslim woman. A woman should not show her beauty or adornments except what appears by uncontrolled factors such as the wind blowing her clothes, and the head covers should be drawn so as to cover the hair, the neck and the bosom. Islam has no fixed standard as to the style of dress or type of clothing that Muslims must wear.

Question: Can I remove my Hijab in time of danger?

Answer: If there is a real danger threatening you because of your Islamic dress, you can remove it only to the necessary extent.

Question: What are the minimum requirements of Hijab (Islamic modest dress) for a Muslim woman?

Answer: Woman should conceal her body and hair from a man who is non-Mahram, and as an obligatory precaution, she should conceal herself even from a Na-baligh boy who is able to discern between good and evil, and could probably be sexually excited. But she can leave her face and hands upto wrists uncovered in the presence of Na-Mahram, as long as it does not lead him to casting a sinful, evil glance or her to doing something forbidden; for in both these cases, she must cover them.

Question: Are girls and women allowed to wear black coat and scarf all year round, even when it's not Muharram?

Answer: It is permissible.

Question: Can we make a movie and photographs with namehrams without hijab and mixed gatherings?

Answer: It is not permissible as a measure of precaution.

Question: I am a married man and live in a joint family system; my father, mother, grand father, my younger brother and my uncle live in my house; how about my wife's hijab in such a situation?

Answer: Your wife is Mahram to your father and grandfather only (and not to your uncle or brother). Refer

Protest in Malad

There was a procession protesting the demolition of Jannatul Baqee by Muslims at Malad Malwani on Sunday evening, 19th Sept. 2010. There was a huge turnout. Speaker after speaker gave a very lively speech venting their ire on the Saudi regime who is preventing to re-build a Rauza at Jannatul Baqie graveyard in Madina which was razed by the Wahhabis (saudi regime) in 1344 H./1925 AD.

Prominent Olama and Zakereen attended this protest procession from different parts of the Mumbai City. For more than 10 years this programme is going on in Malad.

Protest at Zainabia Imambada on Jannatul Baqie Demolition

Protesting the demolition of the shrines in Jannatul Baqie in 1925 by the order of Saudia Arabia's king Abdul Aziz, Zainabia Trust organised a protest day last evening. The Majlis was recited by Hujjatul Islam Sayyid Hasnain Rizvi Kararvi followed by Nauha and Maatam by Anjuman-e-Aabidya, Nawgawan Sadaat.  The 8th of Shawwal is observed by the Muslim world as a protest day. This will continue till the shrines are rebuilt. The below video clip is of the same programme.

There is a strong rumour circulating via SMS and Telephone about the ill health and even demise of Ayatullah a--Uzma Sayyid Ali al-Sistani. The request on SMS is done to recite "Ammain Yojeeb..." for his early recovery as he is critically ill and is also requested to forward this SMS to other mo'mineen.
There is no substance in this news. It is just a RUMOUR. Please, first confirm the news, then circulate the  SMS.

Saudia Arabia, once known as Hejaz. The place where the holy Qur'an was revealed. The Wahhabis run this country on strict and repulsive self-made Islamic Shariat. Country men are throttled in the name of Shariat. The Wahhabis pose themselves as the lovers of the holy Qur'an. There is a huge publication of this book. A virtual ministry exist for this purpose. Every year, the hajis are given this holy book as a parting gift before boarding their flights. They encourage the hajis only to be engrossed in reading holy Qur'an in Masjidul Haraam and Masjidun Nabawi. They discourage the mixing of hajis with each other to discuss over their political and economic conditions.
The religious police, the Mutawwa, continues to rule. The Kingdom boasts on safeguarding Islam’s holy places, but, is always mum when Islam is attacked by its enemies. Certainly it is not considered a model by the Muslim world.
This Saudi Arabia has supplied manpower and money power for suicide squads in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, not for the enemies, but, for the elimination of the Muslim brethren.
This is the same country which supported Israel indirectly in 2006 attack on Lebanon and prayed for the defeat of Hezbollah. 
This very kingdom has been SILENT on the issue of burning of the holy Qur'an in United States of America, its key ally. What a hypocrisy. It proves that they are True Friends of Yahud and Nasaara (Jews & Christians).

9/11 Attacks on World Trade Center is a 'Lie'

Important evidence has emerged showing the official story the American public has been fed about the 9/11 attacks is a 'lie,' a group of architects and engineers say.
A day before the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth say evidence regarding the destruction of the World Trade Center towers has emerged that show pre-set explosives were used in the demolition of the buildings.

Gregg Roberts, who is a member of the non-profit organization disputing the results of official investigations into the September 11 attacks, says the “official story is a lie, it is a fraud.”
According to experts, the Twin Towers suffered total destruction within 10-14 seconds in near free fall accelerations which can only occur as a result of pre-set demolition explosives.

“There had to be explosives, there is no other way for the building to come symmetrically straight down... like a tree if you cut into the tree it falls to the side, that you cut,” said Steven Dusterwald, another member of the truth seeking organization.
The group also asserts that molten metal was found after the 9/11 inquiry.

“Jet fuel and office fires cannot melt iron or steel. They don't even get half as hot as that and so something else was there, very energetic material that had to be placed throughout the buildings,” Roberts said.
“Once we take the blinders off, we can see. There are very few people in America who have taken the blinders off. So we are assisting people by showing them the evidence,” said founder of Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth Richard Gage.

“The 600 architects I represent are most concerned about the freefall collapse of [World Trade Center] Building 7, the third skyscraper [that was] not hit by an airplane to fall on the afternoon of 9/11...the whole building is destroyed in 6.5 seconds,” the American Free Press quoted Gage as saying.
World Trade Center 7 reportedly collapsed about eight hours after the main World Trade Center towers fell.

The new evidence makes void the official story line that 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners and crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City.
The Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth group is calling on US Attorney General Eric Holder to request a federal grand jury investigation into this alleged cover-up, which Gage calls the “largest crime of the century.”

“If there is a responsible party,” former US Senator Mike Gravel told Press TV, “it ends with [former US President George W.] Bush and it comes down to [Former Vice President Dick] Cheney and then it comes down to the military and the various bureaucracies. No question that this kind of activity goes to the very top.”

America Succumbs to the International Pressure, Forces Pastor Terry Jones to Cancel the Burning of the Holy Qur'an

Pastor Terry Jones has decided to cancel his plan to burn the holy Quran at his Florida-based church, a plan which had drawn fierce international criticism.

Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center church announced on Thursday that "we have agreed to cancel our event on Saturday," ABC reported.

Upon announcement the blasphemous plan to burn the holy Quran drew domestic and international condemnation.

US President Barack Obama had earlier urged Jones to withdraw from his plan, saying, "I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women who are in uniform."

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton condemned the plan, describing it as "disrespectful and disgraceful."

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki blamed the plan on the failure of US policies to protect the basic rights of American Muslims.

The Vatican's Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue labeled the scheme as a "deplorable act of violence."

A spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said on Wednesday that "we strongly condemn any kind of attempt of this kind."

The United Nations Secretary General Bank Ki-moon slammed the plan saying, "Such actions cannot be condoned by any religion."

Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Pakistan, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the NATO have also condemned the plan.

Meanwhile, Jonse said on Thursday that his decision came after he reaches a deal with Imam Abdel Rauf, the leader of the proposed Ground Zero Islamic cultural center and mosque, to mover the facility.

"He has agreed to move it," Jones said referring to the Ground Zero Islamic cultural center and mosque.

However, SoHo Properties, the developer of the community center that is being called the Ground Zero Mosque, denied the report.

"The Muslim Community Center called Park51 in Lower Manhattan is not being moved," SoHo Properties said in a statement, adding that "the project will proceed as planned."

Therefore, when you come out of your homes to go to places of your prayer, remind yourselves about the day when you (your souls) shall come out of your bodies to go to your Lord. When you stand on places of your prayer, remind yourselves of your standing in presence of your Lord (on the day of Judgement). And when you return to your homes (after prayer), remind yourselves about your returning to your homes in Paradise." (Nahjul-Balaghah)

Fitrah on the Night of 1st Shawwal

According to the Shariah, Fitra becomes incumbent when the new moon of Shawwal is sighted. This is known as Zakat of Fitra, which is payable by every Baligh person for oneself and all dependents, temporary or otherwise, regardless of gender and age. It is also Mustahab to pay Fitra for an unborn child. Fitra to be distributed to the needy, first locally and then abroad.

As per law 1999 of Ayatullah Seestani’s ‘Islamic laws’: “At the time of sunset on Eid ul Fitr, whoever is adult and sane and is neither unconscious, nor poor, or the slave of another, he should give, on his own behalf as well as on behalf of all those who are his dependents, about three kilos per head of wheat or barley or dates or raisins or rice of millet etc. It is also sufficient if he pays the price of one of these items in case”

Hujjatol Islam Janab Maqsud Mawlayee

Teacher in Qom Islamic seminary, H.I. Maqsud Mawlayee had his 2nd visit to India. Last Ramadhan he was in Bangalore city and this year he is visiting Mumbai. He went around mainly in the South of the city. Fotowat (Darbare Husaini), Moghul Masjid, Imamia Masjid, Shia Jame' Masjid in Dongri, Kesar Baugh etc. He visited Zainabia on 24th Ramadhan where we had a opportunity to talk to him.
He found the city very adorable. Monineen very warm and welcoming. As he was among the believers during the three Laylatul Qadr, he was nostalgic to see them engrossed in A'maal, crying and seeking forgiveness from Allah, fully awake for all the sacred nights. He confessed that he felt that as if he was in Qom, just like the Haram of Hadhrat Masuma (s.a.), where he had seen the same kind of ebaadat. He also found the momineen of the city very religious and committed. He was very happy over here.
But, he was disturbed a bit that there is a GAP in the relations between Shias and Sunnis over here, while it is not so in Iran. He felt that the Wahhabis are trying very hard to widen this gap. The Shias and Sunnis should be very careful, as these Wahhabis are working for their real masters (US & Israel).
Janab Maqsud Mawlayee was very much impressed by the Indian hospitality. He wished that he would come again and again to this beautiful country.
He could not address the non-Iranians as it was one of the conditions for his visa approval.

Protests in Mumbai on al-Quds Day

There was a huge participation outside Shia Jaame' Masjid, Dongri in Mumbai South after the Friday prayers protesting the occupation of Israel of the First Qibla in Jerusalem. The last Friday of the month of Ramadhan is observed as the protest of al-Quds day.
Looking at the currents events involving Zionist government's atrocities towards Palestinians and the siege of Gazza has made the Muslims angry towards America and its partners in occupation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The protesters shouted slogans against the US and the Israel. They were also angry on the hypocrisy of the France and the United Kingdom. One of the protester who has taken off from his office today to be the part of the rally said, "On the atrocities to the Palestinians, the wealthy Arabs are to be blamed as well." Sadiq Abbas an IT professional shouted that the First Qibla is occupied by the Yahudis and the Second one by the Saudis.
While elsewhere in the world there huge rallies in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey and other Muslim countries. As per the news agencies thousands of Palestinians have poured into the streets of Gazaa, marking the International Quds Day.
Chanting anti-Israeli slogans, the angry demonstrators said they will gladly sacrifice all they have to end the Israeli occupation of al-Quds (Jerusalem).
Palestinians have repeatedly said that they insist on East al-Quds, which Israel occupied in 1967 and annexed in 1981, as the capital of their future state. Under international law the area is an occupied territory.
Angry Palestinians also condemned the so-called reconciliation talks between Israeli Prime Minister and acting Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas. The talks were held in Washington on Thursday.
Millions of people around the world have marked the international Quds Day by participating in rallies denouncing Israel's atrocities against Palestinians. The rallies were held to show solidarity with the Palestinians, demanding an end to Israel's occupation of their territories.

Ramadhan in Mumbai

The month of Ramadhan, traditionally a time of frugality and prayer, it has become an occasion for extravagant spending on lavish evening meals.
"You don't keep track of your spending during Ramadhan," said Safdar Husain a small time businessman.
Another believer, a scrap dealer loves to host Iftar meal atleast 3 to 4 times during this month. He says that he enjoys doing this as it gives him optimum spiritual pleasure.

Devout Muslims observe Ramadhan by abstaining from food, drink, smoking and sex from dawn until dusk, across the globe. People get home on time for the iftar meal after sunset.

In Middle Eastern countries, particularly in the Gulf, iftar gives the wealthy an opportunity to show hospitality on a grand scale,some customers even reserve the entire restaurant for an iftar.
Prominent families and socialites compete over who can host the most lavish iftars, and night-long feasts are
not uncommon.

Retail food prices surge as well and even the lower middle classes struggle to make ends meet as fruits, vegetables and meat sell for double or triple their usual prices.

Many clerics lament the loss of the spiritual meaning and traditional character of Ramadhan, which is meant as a month of prayer, fasting and donations to the poor.

"The holy month of Ramadhan should be a return to religion, prayer and a reminder to the observant to aid those in need," said Maulana Zeeshan Haider Zaidi of Masjid Sahibuz Zamaan,Saki Naka. He also said that,
"Iftars hosted outside the home should not be an occasion to show off or prove one's wealth."

On the other spiritual aspect, every Masjid and Imambada in Mumbai has regular Qur'an recitation programme for the whole month. They give away attractive gifts at the end of this month.

Many Masajid and Imambada run special Ramadhan classes for children and junior youths.A young teacher Nahid Abbas conducts one of such class at Bandra Shia Jame Masjid, Bazar Road, Bandra West. He has 40 students in his class. He teaches them simple Islamic laws, simple Shiite beliefs, Morals and true Islamic Stories. He says that during this holy month the children come to the Masjid to recite the holy Qur'an so,it is easy to gather them for such classes. These classes are concluded with attractive prizes and gifts.
In another class, the teacher has called his students to read maximum Qur'anic verses and it was seen that they engage themselves in reciting it in their spare time.

Mumbai Religious heads denounce ‘Burn a Quran’ campaign

 Catholic and Muslim religious heads in the city gathered at the Archdiocese house in Colaba on Wednesday to condemn the ‘Burn a Quran’ campaign launched by senior pastor Terry Jones in the United States of America (USA)....

...........“Jesus respected all religions, and all men and women who sincerely seek God,” said Cardinal Oswald Gracias, archdiocese of Mumbai. “On behalf of all the Christian leaders of Mumbai and the Christian community here, we disassociate ourselves from the planned programme and condemn it as contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ.”
