Ramadhan: The Fast does not becomes Makrooh if Delayed in Breaking it.

Rejoice, its Imam Hasan (a.s) Birthday

Yes, rejoice, celebrate, enjoy, invite your family and friends for Iftar and dinner. Today, 15th of Ramadhan is the birthday of the second Imam, Imam Hasan Mujtaba (a.s.), the elder and beloved grandson of the holy prophet of Islam (pbuh). The elder brother of Imam Husain (a.s.). Imam Hasan (a.s.) was born in Madina and is buried in Madina (Jannatul Baqee).
Imam Hasan and Imam Husain (a.s.) are named by the holy prophet (pbuh) as the youths of the Paradise. On this happy occasion there are celebrations at numerous places in Mumbai. Do not forget to give greetings to the great grandson of Imam Hasan (a.s.), hadhrat Imam Mahdi (a.s.). Give charity to the poor, feed the destitute and help the helpless. One of the attributes of Imam Hasan (a.s.) was that he distributed his wealth among the needy and the destitutes. He performed Hajj 25 times on walk. One should know that from Madina to Makkah the distance is approx. 450 Kms. One has to wear Ehraam for Hajj outside the city of Madina, a place known as Masjide Shajrah which is the Meeqaat for Hajj. Wearing Ehraam from Masjide Shajrah to Masjidul Haraam in Makkah is not comfortable and that also walking! How many days it took to reach Makkah?
Twenty Five Hajj means he has been through all the seasons. Extreme heat and extreme cold!
Today's Haaji reaches Makkah by Air and complains about his journey. The Haaji travels by bus from Masjide Shajrah to his hotel in Makkah and feels uncomfortable. Just 450 kms by road in the bus!!!!

The Dumb Americans

Lost? Don't ask an American. Sixty-three percent of young Americans can't find Iraq on a map, despite the ongoing U.S involvement there. Nine out of 10 can't find Afghanistan—even if you give them the advantage of a map limited to Asia. And more than a third of Americans of any age can't identify the continent that's home to the Amazon River (above), the world's largest.

Hijab is an Attitude, not a Fashion

Hijab being an attitude and a way of thinking, it means that when Muslim women go out, they must act like proper Muslim women. No flirting, talking to men casually, talking too loudly (the voice is also an awra! A man could find a woman’s voice attractive.) etc. We should conduct ourselves with dignity at all times; after all, whenever we go out in the world, we are representing Islam.
There will always be people out there who don’t understand the hijab and direct negative comments and stares towards us. But eventually, you won’t notice those people staring. You will be comfortable in your hijab, you will be strong. It should get to the point where you would feel naked without your covering over your clothes!
But hijab is not only for women, it is for men too. Men have an awra, from their navel to their knee (that is the absolute minimum; it is recommended that men should dress fully and modestly as well). They should also lower their gazes. Although in most Muslim countries, men do not usually walk around without a t-shirt on.....Read Full Article

What is the Aim of Fasting?

Babikir Ahmed, the Imam and spiritual director of Islamic School Center in London explains the Aim of Fasting.

To be honest, for everything we do, we need to plan. We need to ask ourselves, what is the aim of fasting? Everyone needs to understand that fasting is to perfect ourselves. Looking at it from spiritual point of view, a person fasts in order to restrain himself not from the Haraam (the unlawful) but from Halal (the lawful) for a whole month. For what reason? To perfect himself.

The aim is to restrain ourselves and perhaps reach piety. What is piety; it is the highest peak of faith.

Many people think Taqwa (piety) is to act or dress like a Muslim. Taqwa is to restrain ourselves from Haram (what is unlawful) and Taqwa is to use Halaal (what is lawful) with modesty and refrain from overspending. Muslims need to make themselves better before Ramadan through Taqwa.

There is a beautiful Hadith that says, "The beginning of Ramadan is mercy, and its middle is forgiveness and its end is salvation from the fires of hell."

Therefore, I always thought, if that is the case, then the mercy is to get you indulged yourself in finding the ways of pulling yourself away from what is unlawful. You ask Allah to forgive your shortcomings before Ramadan and even in Ramadan.

So, the best thing to do just before Ramadan is to try to follow the Prophets. Ask yourself, what the Prophet did. He [the prophet] used to fast a month before Ramadan and also enjoyed sharing what he had with those who did not have. He never used to eat alone; he brought people together.

Before Ramadan, look at the people around you, share with them what you have because Ramadan is a month of service and we have to learn how we can serve other people.

For us living in the West, one of the best things we need to look into is when we drive our cars and we see people lying in the street, we have to remember that Allah is testing him through us. He is passing his test by accepting his condition. However, are you passing your test to be believer in God by showing mercy? We should share our food, bring to those people to our mosque, and give them something because Islam says we share what we have. The best culture is one where other people invite you to share with them what they have.

Barsi Majlis

How to Recite and Understand the Holy Qur'an

How to recite the Qur'an
1. Do wudhu before reciting. It is forbidden to touch the writings of Qur'an without wudhu. Even when not touching the writings, it is recommended to do wudhu before reciting the Qur'an.
2. See protection of Allah from the Shaytan.
3. Recite with a beautiful voice. The Holy Qur'an should be read slowly, with a beautiful voice and consideration for the rules of recitation. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) says: Give beauty to the Qur'an with your voices. And when he was asked as to who had the best voice for recitation, he said: The person who, when you listen to him, you realize that he fears Allah. The Holy Prophet(S.A.W.) has also said: Everything has a decoration, and the decoration for the Qur'an is a beautiful voice.
4. Interact with the Qur'an. Another important point to remember is to interact with the Qur'an when reciting it. When reading verses which promise blessings and reward for the believers, one should be excited and hopeful. But on reading descriptions of punishments meted out to those who disbelieved and displeased Allah, a believer is fearful and seeks refuge in Allah. Sometimes Allah asks a questions, as in Sura ar- Rahman, Which of the bounties of your Lord will you two deny?. Commentators say a recitor of the Qur'an should answer that by saying None of your bounties, my Lord, do I deny. This type of interacting with the Qur'an makes the Qur'an alive, not just a book to be read.
Understanding the Holy Qur'an
It is important that believers try to understand what Allah has revealed in the Holy Qur'an. It is a book of guidance, and to derive and act upon this guidance, we need to read and understand its verses. The fourth Imam (A.S.) says:
· The Qur'anic verses are treasures of Knowledge and whenever a treasure is opened, you have to see what lies therein.
· Ponder over the verses of the Qur'an, and learn from them, for they are the best of lessons.
Understanding the Qur'an could be done through reading the translation, thinking about the words used in the verse, the causes of revelation, and reading and discussing the commentary provided by knowledgeable scholars.
Understanding and pondering over the verses of the Holy Qur'an is an important duty of all Muslims. Allah talks to us through the Qur'an, and we need to read and understand what He says in it. Many Muslims believe that understanding the Qur'an is the duty of scholars, and they are content to just recite the verses without giving them much thought.
The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.)will complain about such Muslims on the day of Judgement. The Qur'an says he will say: O my Lord! My people took the Qur'an very lightly. By studying and pondering over the verses of the Qur'an, we will not be among the group the Prophet (S.A.W.) will complain about on the day of Judgement.

Majlis on 14th Barsi at Zainabia

Last evening a Majlis was held at Zainabia Imambada 40 mins before Iftar. Many Olama, Poets, Scholars, Newspaper correspondents  and Social Workers attended to remember marhum Sayed Ghulam Hasnain Kararvi. The zakir was Hujjatul Islam Sayed Hasnain Kararvi. He spoke on the greatness of the month of Ramadhan wherein the sleep of a believer is also considered a worship. The spoke of spiritual and material benefits of fasting.
The arrangement for breaking of the fast (Iftar) was made after namaz with jamaat. Later, Taus Mahdi a DNA newspaper sports section correspondence commented that "still after 14 years of passing away of marhum people gather to pay their tribute to him speaks of the deceased person's virtue." People have short memory, most of them forget their kith and kins within a couple of year in this fast moving pattern of life. Marhum Ghulam Hasnain was always kind, helpful and caring to others and was always away from self-promotion and ego. He never harmed or hurt others. He was a true lover of Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) and always worked in the way of Imam-e-Zamana (a.s.).

Ramadhan: Fasting not for Travelers and Sick

Is Taraweeh Prayer an Innovation of the Second Caliph?

We find in some traditions that the first person to establish the Sunnat congregational prayer in the month of Ramazan is Umar b. Khattab when it did not exist in the time of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) or the Caliphate of Abu Bakr. But Umar gave his opinion for it based on its fondness and goodness and exhorted the people to practice it. He admitted it was an innovation although a good one. Interestingly, he himself was not regular in the congregation but recited in solitude at home. This fact has been revealed by great scholars of the Ahle Sunnat like Qastalani, Ibne Qaddamah, Qalqashqandi, etc.

Guest of Allah

You're invited! Although the invitation hasn't come in the mail, your presence would please the Most Honorable One during the month of Ramadan. So clear your calendars and get ready, because this is one invitation you don't want to pass up!
While Rajab is the month of our Creator and Sha'ban is the month of Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him and his progeny), the blessed month of Ramadan is our month – the month of the Ummah. It is during these few weeks that we are the guests of the Most Gracious. Taking our role into consideration, we should try to be the best of guests – after all, we do want to be worthy of being invited again!

When the Prophet ascended to the Heavens, the Almighty told him about the purpose of fasting: "Fasting leads to wisdom, and wisdom enables you to understand My signs and ways; that will raise you to the stage of certitude. And when a person has reached the level of certitude, he or she cares not whether the days pass in plenty or scarcity." (Bihar al-Anwar) Indeed, as His guests fast all throughout this blessed month, He provides their souls with an infinite amount of food.

Send Your Questions on Fasting

You can also send your questions to Hujjatul Islam maulana Sayed Hasnain Kararvi on Fasting during the month of Ramadhan. He will answer you on video.

A Late Realisation: Equality Between Men & Women

UK to abolish mixed-sex hospitals

British officials have promised that they will end most of the mixed-sex hospital accommodations in England this year.

"It's really difficult for people in wards where they feel they don't have the privacy they need, it's uncomfortable," said Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, adding that many patients are embarrassed as they are forced to share bathrooms and toilets with the opposite sex.
Eliminating mixed-sex hospitals was one of the programs proposed by the Labour Committee when it won power in 1997; the plan, however, failed to be implemented due to the additional costs imposed on the hospitals.
"I have made clear repeatedly my deep frustration at the fact that mixed-sex accommodation has not been eliminated from the NHS,” said Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, adding that one in 10 hospital wards are still mixed.
Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham, however, claimed earlier that 95 percent of the UK hospitals already provide single sex accommodations. He stressed that Lansley only aims "to claim credit for something Labour has done and the media shouldn't fall for it".
According to a statement recently released by the British government, patients would soon be sharing sleeping, bathroom and toilet facilities only with individuals of the same sex in all wards except intensive care and A&E by the end of this year.
Emergency cases, however, would be considered as an exception as treating as many people as possible in the shortest time is the priority in the medicine.
Based on the statement whose details will be announced in the coming week, using a curtain as a divider to split men and women on a ward is not acceptable.
Mixed wards, on the other hand, may continue their existence in case separated bays or rooms would be available for men and women.

France: The Ban on Hijab is Talibanic Approach

The ban on Muslim women wearing a veil in France is not a precautionary step in thwarting "Terrorism" or "Islamic Extremism” or Innovation. If France were concerned with the humanitarianism aspect of preventing Muslim women from being forced to wear the veil they could implement social organizations and make support groups and safe houses for those women who are truly being persecuted. But instead they are prohibiting women who choose to wear a veil from getting an education, working in government offices, taking public transportation and in retrospect, forbidding them from leaving their homes (which, in all its hypocrisy is tantamount to the same crimes on women of which the Taliban were accused.)

The burqa or veil is worn by Muslim women when they leave their homes to go out in public places. There is no need in Islam to cover one’s body as such when she is at home with her family. So the very places France has banned the veil are ALL of the places a Muslim woman would wear it. Therefore the message France is sending to Muslim women of France is, “If we can’t see your face, we don’t want to see you at all.” And the message France is sending to the world is, “We will not tolerate anything but conformity to our way of life, our culture, and what we dictate as the acceptable societal norms.”

For the majority of Muslim women, to wear a veil is a choice they have made in order to dress more modestly and in turn pleasing The Creator(Allah). The veil for Muslims dates back to the wives of the Prophet Muhammad(peace & blessings be upon him). They all wore the veil. These women were and still are held in the highest esteem and are referred to as the "Mothers of the Believers." Their superior character and righteousness is a desirable thing to be emulated. Therefore many women choose to wear the veil in honor of dressing and behaving as these women had. There is even evidence of the importance of the veil in the Qur’an (although there are differences of opinion on whether it’s voluntary or mandatory so both are accepted). And it is documented in the Hadith (sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad) that the women heard the verses in the Qur’an about covering themselves and they immediately covered their faces as well. They are considered the BEST generation of Muslims with the BEST understanding of Islam. So for a Muslim woman to wear a veil is an exemplary act of worship and not a despicable act of innovation or extremism.

The irony of this is that a woman can walk the streets in a sheer dress, displaying herself for all to see and gawk at, and that is more acceptable in Western society than a woman displaying her modesty by covering her body from public viewing and scrutiny. Some might say the naked woman is the victim of her culture that misleads her to adamantly believe she is free. Yet she is often negatively labeled and categorized by her lifestyle choices. In turn, some might call the Muslim woman a hero for braving a lifestyle with values that are met with hostility, disdain, pity, misunderstanding, judgment, disrespect and discrimination, and often violence, not for the purpose of simply “doing whatever she wants.” But she weathers the opposition all in order to please The Creator(Allah).

The Holy Month of Ramadhan is Racing towards us

The moon crescent is getting thinner and thinner to end Sha’baan and deliver the opportunities of the faithful brothers and sisters to holy Ramadan. However, still Sha’baan is on, and it is to us to do our best to gain further boons and gifts of this bounteous month. Having been said from Imam Ridha (PBUH), the Almighty Allah releases lots of His servants from the fire flames they have created due to their faults just to greet and respect holy Ramadan. Again, fasting the final three days of Sha’baan, and fasting on the last Friday of Sha’baan has been highly advised by Imam Ridha (PBUH). He has asked us to find our own way to get rid of the effects of the faults we have made. For instance, whispering the following dua (which can be used within Qonut section of daily prayers) has been recommended:

اللـّهُمَ اِن لــَم تـَکـُن غـَفـَرتَ لـَنا فیما مـَضی مـِن شـَعبان، فـَاغـفـِرلـَنا فیما بـَقـِیَ مـِنه

Please have a look to your Mafaatih for further information about the final days of Sha’baan.

Rizvi Biulder Gags Obama's Islam Envoy in Mumbai

Rashad Hussain, US president Barack Obama’s special envoy to the Organisation of Islamic Conference (IOC), the second largest international body, was on a day’s visit to the city to deliver a lecture titled ‘The Obama Administration’s Outreach to the Muslim World’.
Meeting with the press and students of Rizvi College of Architecture, Hussain was in his element as he listed the Obama administration’s efforts in the field of education, science and technology, entrepreneurship and health to reach out to the global Muslim community and bridge the gaps created by past US governments.
Akhtar Hasan Rizvi, prominent builder and education baron, sat calm and composed as Hussain spoke. When it was his turn on the dais, Rizvi politely welcomed his guest and gave a brief disclaimer, saying, “I welcome the move and support it but doubt the US president’s success.”
Thereafter, the general secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party and former Parliamentarian didn’t mince his words, citing grouses which the Muslim community has held for decades against the US. “America gave birth to terrorism and the Jewish policy needs to be controlled,” Rizvi told a visibly shaken Hussain.
